In France, just like all other areas impacted by human activity, wildlife is also affected by antibiotic resistance.
The risks associated with antibiotic resistance in wildlife are still poorly documented. Nevertheless, even without ever having been given antibiotics, wild animals can be carriers of resistant bacteria. And these bacteria could be naturally resistant to certain antibiotics or perhaps resistant bacteria resulting from environmental contamination by effluents (soil, water) or even from contact with livestock.
Resistant bacteria carried by wildlife can be transmitted to humans, e.g. through the consumption of game or via the environment.
Generally speaking, the transmission of this type of microorganism to humans has been exacerbated by urbanisation in conjunction with the destruction of natural habitats, leading to greater contact between humans and wild animals.
